Cougar Ridge Chess Club Rules

1. Make choices that don't cause problems for anyone.
2. Fair play is expected. Don't gloat when you win or cry when you lose. Shake hands with your opponent before and after the game, regardless of the outcome.
3. Touch move rule: If you touch a piece, you must move it if you can. If you touch your opponent's piece, you must take it if you can. If you take your hand off a piece after you've moved it, your move is over.
4. If you are offered a challenge, accept it if you're not already playing a game.
5. Don't talk to anyone playing a game. Suggesting moves, commenting about the game or otherwise distracting players isn't acceptable.
6. When the game is finished, set the board up again in starting position. This will help to avoid losing pieces. At the end of the meeting, CAREFULLY put all of the pieces back in the bag, and check the floor to see if any escaped!
7. Remember, you're here to play chess. If you aren't playing, you'll be reminded of this fact, and if it gets to be a problem, you'll be asked not to return.
8. If there is a dispute: find an adult, explain the situation, and accept their decision without complaint.
9. Parents are expected to sign their child in each meeting. Visitors are allowed only when accompanied by a parent, or when submitting a membership to join the club.
10. No food or drink allowed at the tables where games are to be played.
11. Failure to obey the Club Rules will result in a warning. If it gets to be a problem, there will be a call to your parent.
