The Cougar
Ridge Student Council is a PTSA sponsored group established to provide
student participation in school government. It consists of 4th and 5th grade
students and several parent advisors. Any student may join and the meetings
are held the third Tuesday of the month in our Multi-purpose room. The
meetings begin at 7:30 am and run for fifty minutes.. The purpose of this organization is to carry out the ideals of school spirit, increased cooperation between staff and students and enable students to become good citizens. They do this by learning to carry on business meetings, developing leadership skills, and promoting self esteem. |

The business meetings are run by the elected officers, a parent advisor and a parent secretary. The Officers consist of President, Vice President and Secretary. They are chosen by the students through our election process held twice during the year. Only fifth grade students are eligible for President, but otherwise all members are given the opportunity to participate.

As detailed in our constitution the duties are as follows: President -Presides at meetings, appoints special committees, introduces speakers and announces programs, votes only in case of a tie, represents the student body and council on occasions. Vice President- Acts as the President when the President is absent, assists the President with duties, serves as greeter and take attendance to council meetings. Secretary- Handles correspondence, and assists with minutes of meeting.

In addition to meetings the students can volunteer as Room Representatives.
This position rotates every three months also. The students go in pairs to
all classrooms to give a report of each student council meeting. After each business meeting the students break in to assigned committees. The committees are lead by parent advisors and work on a variety of activities. Descriptions of each committee are attached. |
