5th Grade Invention Unit
SCENARIO: You have just designed a unique new invention. Most inventors apply for a patent to protect their idea. You must create a PowerPoint presentation about your invention, keeping in mind that your audience is the "Patent Board". You will try to convince this board that your idea is indeed unique and worthy of receiving a patent. When your patent has been granted, you will need to write to a business in hopes of partnering with them to produce your new invention.
Unique Invention: Why do people invent new products? Often, it's because they have an idea for a new item that would be useful to themselves or to other people. Other times, an existing product is altered to produce a new and improved version. It can take anywhere from a few days to several years to design, build, market and sell a new invention
What household objects do you use every day? Which one would you like to improve or change? Who might benefit from using your new and improved version?
