| Word
Processing |
Encourage your children to
use a word processing program for school assignments, thank-you notes, and
other letters, lists and creative writing. |
|
Data Bases |
Suggest
they keep track of collections with a database, i.e. keep track of books
they have read or places they have visited. |
| Spreadsheets |
Children can use
spreadsheets to keep a record of their allowances, expenditures, birthday
money and the like. Paper routes and girl scout cookie sales can also be
tracked with a spreadsheet. |
|
Keyboarding |
Invest in
a good keyboarding program to help your children learn good keyboarding
habits. Use it to sharpen your habits also.
Keyboarding should start with children around
the 2nd grade, depending on their hand-eye coordination. To retain most
skills your child should keyboard about 20-30 min. per day for a 2-3 week
period. Sporadic use of a keyboarding program seldom achieve good results.
