News Flash from Room 16Mrs. Weisel and Mrs. Jensen
Our first week at school was very successful. We are excited about our wonderful class and the upcoming school year. Here are a few updates.
Curriculum Night: Tuesday, September 23rd from 7:00 – 7:45. We hope that you are all able to attend. Remember this is an informational night for parents only. Kids get the night off!!!
Scholastic News: Our class will be using Time for Kids and Weekly Reader to enhance our reading, social studies and science programs. We would appreciate it if you could donate $10.75 toward the cost of these weekly student magazines. Please make a check out to Cougar Ridge Elementary and return it to school with your child by Friday, September 19th. Please let us know if you are unable to contribute at this time and we will seek other funding sources. Thank you for your support.
Classroom supplies: There was an error in our 2nd grade supply list and scissor and pencils got left off the posting. We have enough pencils for now but your child will need scissors. If you did not send them in with your child’s supplies, please try to send them in sometime next week. Also, if your child did not send in their coins for our Everyday math program, here is what they need. Thank you. * 25 pennies * 10 dimes * 10 nickels * 6 quarters
Math: We have started Unit 1 in math. You can access the Everyday Math Website for more information about what we are covering in this unit. www.wrightgroup.com/index.php/home/everydaymathematics/ emthirdedition/familyletters/692 September Sharing: This month we are focusing on activities to help us get to know each other and friendship. Please help your child complete the attached “My Name” worksheet and return it to school by Monday, September 15th. It will help your child with their presentation if they orally practice it at home. Below is a Sharing Rubric of our classroom expectations. Today at sharing… * I used a loud, clear voice. * I had good posture and eye contact. * I used good expression. * I watched and listened to the other speakers. * I asked appropriate questions.
4 = Wow! 3= Right on Target 2=OK 1=Need to Improve
First Day Packet If you haven’t turned in your child’s First Day packet please do so ASAP. The office needs this important information.
Homework Believe it or not the kids are asking for homework! I told the class there would be limited homework until after Curriculum Night. Most of them were very disappointed! They are eager learners!
Parent Volunteers At Curriculum Night, parents can sign up for volunteer activities. Until then, we have a few clerical jobs if anyone is available. Also if you are interested in being our Parent Volunteer Coordinator(s), please let us know.
Thank you for all your help and support. We are off to a fantastic year. We’re looking forward to seeing you on Curriculum Night.
